Broad Institute Research Opportunity

The Broad Institute’s Diversity Initiative located in Cambridge, MA is launching an academic year research opportunity for students attending colleges/universities in the local area beginning February 2013 or earlier.If you are interested in exploring genomics and/or biomedical research, please read further and apply now!

The Broad

Broad scientists use genomic information to study human evolution, population and disease genetics, cellular networks, and the biology and evolution of pathogens. Our research draws on students and scientists from a wide variety of backgrounds, including: computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, molecular and cellular biology, chemistry, and biochemistry. The Program

Our academic year undergraduate research program funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) is designed for underrepresented minority students with an interest in biomedical research. Students are expected to spend a minimum of 8 hours a weekduring the academic year in a laboratory at the Broad Institute, where they will perform original scientific research with a mentor.

In addition to a stipend (paid per hour), the program also offers a small research supply budget, and funding to present your research at local, regional or national conferences. The program also features components to support academic and career development. If eligible, students are encouraged to participate for multiple semesters.

Program Eligibility

To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a four-year college with a graduation date of December 2013 or later, possess an interest in pursuing an advanced degree (e.g. Ph.D .or M.D./Ph.D.), and major in physical, biological, or computer sciences, engineering, or mathematics. Applicants must also be a US Citizen or permanent resident and a member of an underrepresented minority (African-American, Latino/Hispanic-American, or Native American).
